Open Call for Summer Internships for Graduate Students
For the third year, Compartamos offers its summer internship program for graduate students.
Compartamos is a group of companies which generate social, economic and human value, whose objective is to promote, organize and manage all types of companies, national and internationally, based on innovative and efficient models offering development opportunities and promoting the common good. Compartamos was established in 2010 and is headquartered in Mexico City. Currently, Compartamos has six subsidiaries, 3 of them are microfinance institutions operating in Guatemala (Compartamos S.A.), Peru (Financiera CREAR) and Mexico (Compartamos Banco), this last one the largest microfinance institution in Latin America. The other subsidiaries are focused one in micro insurance (Aterna), another one a banking correspondent net in Mexico (Yastás) and the last one a foundation dedicated to support social projects (Fundación Compartamos).
For 2012, we have 6 projects for graduate students, 4 of them will take place in Mexico City, one in Guatemala and the last one in Peru, the deadline for the documents submission is March 23rd, 2012.
Requirements for Applicants: 1. Be a student or be recently graduated from a graduate program. 2. Proficiency in English and Spanish both oral and written. 3. Full time availability for 8 weeks during the summer. 4. Ability to travel if the project requires it. 5. Have life and health insurance.
How to Apply: Send the following information to academia@compartamos.com:
1.-Download and fill out the PDF form.
2. Copy of a valid passport with an expiration of 6 months minimum. 3. Two recommendation letters from different teachers. 4. Notes of the last semester attended. 5. Copy of the life and health insurance policies.
Selection Process: Compartamos will start receiving applications from the 15th January with the deadline of March 23rd. Compartamos will send an e-mail within the next 48 hours to the applicant confirming receipt of the documentation. The selection process will be from 23rd to the 30th of March. An e-mail will be sent to advise the applicant whether or not they have been shortlisted. The applicant needs to reply confirming whether they wish to continue or not with the selection process. To continue, Compartamos will schedule a conference call to explain the project and the logistics of the program (this call will be in Spanish) between these same dates. The final decision will be notified via e-mail no later than April 4th and the applicant has until April 20th to accept participation in the internship.

About the Application
When should I apply?
The application deadlines vary from year to year. Please refer to our Open Call for this year´s dates.
What information should I have ready before applying?
You should read the different projects that Compartamos has available and understand the profile required. In addition you must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validation.
Can I edit my application or update my CV/resume after it has been submitted?
No. Once you have submitted your application you will not be able to make any alterations.
Can I withdraw my application?
Yes. You can send an e-mail to academia@compartamos.com requesting to withdraw your application.
Who should write a letter of recommendation?
You must have one letter of recommendation from someone who has taught you in the classroom. The second letter of recommendation may come from another professor, faculty advisor, or from someone who has supervised you in a work setting.
Is there an exception about the deadlines?
No, there are no exceptions to accept applications before or after the deadline.
How can I make sure that you receive my application?
You will receive a confirmation e-mail 48 hours after we receive your application.
How soon will I hear about my application?
All applicants will receive an e-mail with a response either accepting or refusing the application on the dates established in the Open Call.

Does Compartamos offer part-time summer internships?
No, all of them are full-time.
Does Compartamos offer internships during the year?
The only internship program is during the summer.
Are there other projects, besides the ones published in the webpage?
No, but if you have a proposal, please send your request to academia@compartamos.com and it will be evaluated.
Does Compartamos offer internships other than Mexico?
If so, it will be included in the project´s description.
When does the program begin?
We have two dates for the program start: June 25th or July 9th.
How long is the program?
8 weeks.

Do I need to sign a Confidential Agreement?
Once you have been accepted on the program, you will need to sign a Confidential Agreement.
General Questions
Does Compartamos give life and medical insurance for students during the program?
No, Compartamos does not give either life or medical insurance. Once the student is accepted onto the program, a copy of the life and medical insurance is required.
Do I need a visa?
You should investigate if you need a visa. Compartamos does not help you with visa applications. If you need a letter from Compartamos, you can request it by sending an email to academia@compartamos.com
Is housing provided?
Interns must secure their own accommodation.
